Nutritional Psychiatry
Nutrition is fundamental to our physical and mental health and has a great impact on how we feel. The gut-brain axis is an exciting area of interest within the mental health field and it has been a fast emerging area of research.
In the Western world we have become quite disconnected from the food we eat, and our busy lives can mean that we tend to reach for packaged, processed foods and foods filled with sugar, preservatives, and harmful chemicals and ingredients. There is now plenty of evidence regarding the harmfulness of ultra-processed food. The high sugar, fat and salt content, together with chemicals and additives keep our brains addicted to ultra-processed foods.
Nutritional Psychiatry can help you to reclaim your mental health through nutritional advice, supplementation advice and gut microbiome health. I am certified in Nutritional Psychiatry and trained under Drew Ramsey, MD.
My focus is often on plant-based whole foods, as there is an abundance of evidence that this is the healthiest diet for the human body, and for that of the planet as a whole. However, you do not need to feel pressured to make any changes beyond your comfort level, and I will ‘meet you where you are at’ and help you to make informed choices to improve your wellbeing through diet.
